The Southern Maryland Association for the Education
of Young Children (SMAEYC) encompasses Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's
and Southern Prince George's Counties. SMAEYC holds board meetings at
Trinity United Methodist Church located in Prince Frederick, MD. We
welcome anyone who wishes to attend or would like to volunteer their
time. We welcome all levels of involvement (from small to large).
Our motto is "Connecting Communities so Young Children
Thrive".
News:
SMAEYC Board Representatives and Members: Tracy Jost,
Karin Koch, Tina Diaduk, and Patty Harper – Tenley all attended
Project First Choice Provider Appreciation breakfast on Saturday, January
10th. We had the opportunity to network with other early childhood professionals
from other Counties. Project First Choice is a free behavior interventionist
program offered to providers and parents. They are grant funded through
MSDE.
SMAEYC will be having a board meeting soon. We are working on location
and timing to offer the meetings in all three counties.
Our Week of the Young Child event planning
is underway. In Calvert County, we will be coordinating with the Interagency
Council, including the United Way Success by Six and Judy Center Programs,
for an even larger turnout this year. We are working with the Early
Childhood Team (ECT) of St. Mary’s County to plan an event with
coordinating agencies for that county. Finally, we will participate
in the Charles County Early Childhood Day at Regency Furniture Center
in Hughesville on Saturday, May 2nd. This event is in partnership with
The Early Care and Education Team to support the Early Childhood Matters
initiative.
